Chirundu MP donates cement
LILLIAN CHIKANDI writes  CHIRUNDU Member of Parliament (MP), Douglas Syakalima, has donated 60 pockets of cement each to Kapululira and Zalaungaschools. The MP has also donated 20 buckets, hand sanitizers and face masks. Mr Syakalima said it was important to enhance COVID-19 preventive measures as Chirundu border had recorded eight cases of truck drivers who could possibly have had direct contact with the local people. He said there was need for concerted efforts in implementing all health guidelines in conformity with statutory Instrument 21 and 22. “We do know and appreciate that old habits die hard but I think we are confronted with a disease that can kill a generation.  “Covid-19 is a disease that we need to put collective efforts and as teachers the onus is on you as you reopen to impart knowledge in pupils so that as they go back to their communities they are also able to carry the message,” Mr Syakalima said. Mr Syakalima also took some time to interact with people at the market and mothers shelter and emphasized the need to adhere to measures. He urged people to mask up, regularly wash hands and observe social distance. And Kapululira Secondary School head teacher, Iness Maanya, said her administration would erect a new structure, conducive for children. She said this when she received 60 pockets of cement donated towards the construction of the facility at school. Ms Maanya reminded Mr Syakalima that the teachers’ houses had not received any attention yet. And Parents and Teachers’ Association (PTA) chairperson, ShennyKudongo, applauded Mr Syakalima’s gesture.
