PF suspends ‘Jay Jay’
By NOEL IYOMBWA PATRIOTIC Front (PF) Eastern Province youth chairperson Emmanuel “Jay Jay” Banda has been suspended from his position. PF Secretary-General Davies Mwila announced the suspension in a letter addressed to Mr Banda dated August 24, 2020. Mr Banda’s suspension follows his alleged misconduct at Lusaka Central Police and the illegal public procession in Chipata. Jay JayMr Mwila said he had learnt that Mr Banda had been accused of storming the Lusaka Central Police Station where it was alleged that he beat up some officers on duty. He said it was also alleged by police that Mr Banda got away with undisclosed amounts of money belonging to one of the officers.“I find your alleged conduct in breach of Article 75, regulation 29(c) and (f) of the Party Constitution. “In view of the above and the subsequent criminal charges that have since been levelled against you, I therefore suspend you from your office and given fourteen (14) days to exculpate yourself why further disciplinary action should not be taken against you,” Mr Mwila said. Last week, PF information publicity secretary for Eastern Province William Phiri apologised on behalf of the provincial leadership over the behaviour of Mr Banda. Mr Phiri said that the party was supposed to show leadership and that it would not defend any member who broke the law.
